Balmoral Castle in Scotland could be turned into a museum of Elizabeth II

The first exhibition devoted to the life and service of the late queen could take place as early as next summer. Her exhibits are likely to be Elizabeth’s clothes and jewelry.

Balmoral has been a favorite summer vacation destination of the royal family for many decades. It was there that the queen spent her last days before her death. The coffin containing her body was originally placed in the ballroom of the castle so that its staff could pay tribute to the monarch.

The new plans for the Scottish castle only underscore the new king’s determination to move toward a so-called “simplified monarchy. Even as prince, Charles said he planned to reduce the size of the royal suite at Buckingham Palace.
