Adaptation is the first major survey of contemporary American photographer Anastasia Samoilova. The exhibition will feature works from her five major series, Landscape Sublime, Image Cities, FloodZone, Floridas and Breakfasts, as well as video works not previously shown in the UK. Samoilova’s photographs analyze the adaptation of the environment to human intervention, as well as social and political resistance to change.

Goldsmiths CCA presents Inner Heat , the first institutional exhibition by artist duo Louis Blue Newby and Laila Majeed. Their work often features transformative visual imagery from online forums and social media, as well as dialog on themes of gender and non-normative sexual practices. Central to the exhibition will be the “Contact” series, in which digital images are painstakingly translated into graphite drawings, creating an emotional contrast between the “familiarity” of the images and the laboriousness of the process of reproducing them. Through this creative method, the artists reflect on how we interact with and interpret visual media.

The Royal Academy of Arts explores the rivalry between Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci and their influence on the equally great Raphael. The exhibition will feature more than 40 works, including Michelangelo’s Tondo Taddei, Leonardo’s Caricatures and Raphael’s Madonna Bridgewater. The exhibit will emphasize the vibrant artistic atmosphere of Republican Florence, focusing on preparatory drawings and unfinished frescoes. One of the main exhibits will be a drawing by Raphael copying Leonardo’s “Battle of Anghiari”.

This exhibition will be a new account of the culture and art of the Hindu Mughal Empire that will highlight the significant influence of Jesuit missionaries and European traders on the region’s craft traditions. The exhibit will include a variety of court art, including contemporary portraits, gem-studded gold vessels and exquisite carpets. Visitors will be able to explore historical essays and texts that reveal the particular dynamics of the reign of each of the three emperors-Akbar, Jahangir , and Shah Jahan-and learn unexpected stories about this influential dynasty, best known for commissioning the construction of the Taj Mahal.

The Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize returns to London for its 17th year, showcasing the work of contemporary, talented, young photographers, amateur and professional. The exhibition will showcase a diverse range of portraits , from formal commissions to intimate and spontaneous moments. Viewers will also be able to see works by renowned photographers from the annual In Focus exhibit and the work of 2023 award winner Serena Brown.

Dulwich Art Gallery will host the first major exhibition dedicated to artist and designer Tirza Garwood (1908-1951). Known primarily as the wife of Eric Ravilious and author of Long Live Great Bardfield, Garwood was an accomplished painter and printmaker. This retrospective will feature more than 80 of her charming works, providing a comprehensive view of her oeuvre. The exhibit will also include 11 works by Ravilious, which will draw visitors’ attention to the different artistic personalities of this creative couple.

The large-scale exhibition will include 350 works that capture the social and political upheaval that occurred in the UK in the 1980s. The exhibition will feature the work of more than 70 photographers, and their lenses will focus on iconic moments such as miners’ strikes, welfare offices, portraits of the people of England in those years and much more. Viewers will also have the opportunity to trace how underground club culture and fashion photography shaped British youth at the end of the decade.

Electric Dreams, which opens at Tate Modern in November, will explore how artists used machines and algorithms to create mesmerizing art from the 1950s to the early 1990s. The exhibition will span the period from optical art to the dawn of the internet and will showcase kinetic, programmable and digital innovations integrated into creativity. Viewers will see psychedelic installations from the 1950s, experimentation with early digital technologies in the 1970s and 1980s, and learn more about artists’ visions for the future of visual expression.

The Jamil Prize 2024, now in its seventh year, will present works of contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic culture.
