The Russian Virtuosi of Europe and legend of Russian song, Boris Grebenshikov, join forces for an unforgettable evening of Russian music. Look forward to an eclectic programme including Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence and the world premiere of Colombian composer Arturo Cuellar’s Latin Fantasy on Russian Themes. The programme also includes Grebenshikov’s Faune Suite for voice and chamber orchestra arranged by Simon Bass, and many of Boris Grebenshikov’s favourite songs.
Boris, or BG as he is colloquially known, is a household name in Russia and widely considered to be the ‘founding father’ of Russian rock, due as much to his personal contribution as to the undisputed and lasting success of his band Aquarium.
In this concert, he appears with the Russian Virtuosi of Europe, founded by London based Russian violinist Yuri Zhislin. The ensemble comprises internationally renowned artists who enjoy successful careers around the world. Since their successful debut in 2004, the RVoE has given concerts in Europe and had several South American and Russian tours. Over the years, the ensemble has collaborated with MeiYiFoo, Ashley Wass, Vestard Shimkus as well as members of leading string quartets.
Zhislin said, ‘It is an honour for the Russian Virtuosi of Europe to be performing with BG in concert and we are looking forward to sharing our Russian culture with our audience. We hope our varied programme will thrill and delight!’
