IF Foundation presents ‘Liberated Canvas’ – a major solo exhibition of artist and classical pianist Sholpan Sharbakova hosted by MacDougall Fine Art Auctions in Piccadilly from 8-14 December 2014.
Following a longstanding tradition of artists-musicians like W. Kandinsky and P. Klee, concert pianist, soloist, chamber musician, laureate of numerous international piano competitions and festivals, S. Sharbakova, originally from Kazakhstan, has had an extensive career performing music from underneath her oil brushes.
Sholpan’s paintings are as dynamic as her chords, jumping out of the restraints of the canvas, singing of an awakening. In the artists own words – ‘a liberation from stereotypes’ and let us add: be it the ones dictated by our cultural backgrounds, historical contexts, social pre-conceptions or spatial limitations.
‘Let them go’, she says and we follow: look at them from the side, watch them mould, transform and shape into something else, something unexpected and come see Sholpan Sharbakova’s canvases as replications of lyrical thoughts experiencing the same – the becoming of textural and tactile sculptures/fabrics.
