Встреча с Евгенией Альбац

Evgenia Albats is Editor-in-Chief  & CEO of the Russian political weekly The New Times. She is also an anchor at Echo Moskvy  broadcasting and a recipient of several journalism awards worldwide.

She received the Golden Pen Award in 1989, the highest journalism honor in the then-Soviet Union. She was an Alfred Friendly fellow in 1990 and a fellow of the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University in 1993.

Albats is the author of 4 books, including The State Within A State: KGB and Its Hold on Russia. Past, Present and Future (Germany 1991, Russia 1992, United States UK, France  & other countries 1994-1995), The Jewish Question (1995), Russian Bureaucracy: The Politics of Accommodation (2004).

Albats has a PhD in political science from Harvard University. She has lectured at many universities in the US and Europe, including Yale University . She was a permanent professor at the National University — The Higher School of Economics in Moscow in 2004-2011, where she taught causes on bureaucracy, institutional theory of a state and theory of political regimes.

Bridget Kendall has been BBC Diplomatic Correspondent since 1998. Based in London she covers major international developments and global trends for BBC radio, television and online.  She has a particular interest and expertise in Russia and East/West relations and covered the collapse of the Soviet Union, as well as conflicts in Kosovo, Chechnya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and now Syria.

She is also host of The Forum, the flagship discussion programme for BBC World Service radio, which explores new ideas and research from around the world.  Awards include the James Cameron Award for distinguished journalism and an MBE in the 1994 New Year’s Honours list.
