ZIMA Magazine Artist of the Month. December’s winner is Dasha Loyko-Greer

Dasha’s practice is built on her Philosophy education and interest in expanded states of consciousness. She views self-exploration as a tool for understanding the nature of reality. The artist explores how we perceive the world through subconscious “scripts”, which often shape our experiences, striving to make these scripts visible, malleable, and unfixed. She is particularly interested in the beliefs we internalise in reaction to fear, guilt, shame, or misguided trust in authority.

There is a lot of playfulness and irreverence in Dasha’s work. She actively uses her voice, somatic practices, intuitive drawing, free association, and wordplay to disrupt her own habits of perception. Dasha describes her practice as a “celebration of consciousness.”

Dasha Loyko-Greer earned her Master’s degree in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal College of Art in 2019 and her Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method from the London School of Economics in 2017. She has held two solo exhibitions in London, at lake (2023) and Harlesden High Street (2019). In addition, the artist’s works have been showcased at the Liverpool Independents’ Biennial, MK Gallery, Gossamer Fog, the Science Museum, Horse Hospital, and other venues. Dasha’s writing has been published in two anthologies by Prototype (2021, 2023) and as a standalone pamphlet by If a Leaf Falls Press (2023). In 2020, she received the Arts Council England’s endorsement for “Exceptional Talent.”

Pavel Otdelnov, a member of the Artist of the Month jury: “I am happy to congratulate Dasha Loyko-Greer on winning the Artist of the Month competition by Zima Magazine.

Dasha is a multidisciplinary artist who combines text, installation, voice, video, sculpture, and intuitive drawing and painting in her practice. Dasha’s work is connected to her deep interest in philosophy and thought experiments. She began exploring competing frameworks of thought in her adolescence and later studied philosophy, logic and scientific method as an undergraduate. Disappointment with the hegemony of the rational paradigm led her to an artistic exploration of the subconscious, which became the foundation of her practice. During her Master’s at the Royal College of Art, Dasha developed her unique approach that combines intellectual inquiry, meditation, and bodywork.
I wish Dasha the best of luck in her career and an attentive, sensitive audience!”
