The sequel to the acclaimed 28 Days Later – which turned into 28 Weeks Later and then into Years – has already been dubbed one of the highest quality films of the season, as well as director Danny Boyle’s (On the Needle) best work in 17 years – has already been dubbed one of the highest quality films of the season, as well as the best work of director Danny Boyle (“Needle”) in the last 17 years( The Telegraph). The zombie apocalypse is set on the British coast of Northumbria. A community of survivors takes refuge on a secluded island, where the ominous virus “Fury” has not yet reached. The men work with their hands, the children teach hymns at school and learn to kill zombies, and in the evenings everyone gathers to drink beer and sing loudly to the accordion. At the center of the plot is a 12-year-old boy named Spike (Alfie Williams). He secretly leaves the island in hopes of finding a mysterious doctor (Ralph Fiennes) on the mainland to cure his mother’s (Jodie Comer) unknown illness. Critics praise the quality staging and excellent acting of the actors, as well as the successful historical references and metaphors for some of the problems of modern society.

Celine Song’s new movie “The Materialists” (in the Russian version of the title, for some reason, “The Materialist”) was released last weekend and immediately became one of the top three A24 premieres of all time. On the network there are funny clips from theaters, how at every romantic scene with Pedro Pascal, the audience explodes with enthusiastic screams and applause. I wonder if the Brits will have the same reaction.
The plot is typical for a romantic comedy: Lucy (Dakota Johnson) is a successful New York matchmaker who, at the beginning of the movie, celebrates her next professional achievement (i.e. the wedding of her clients). The protagonist isn’t too baffled by her search for her own true love. But everything changes on the same evening. At the party Lucy meets two contenders for her heart at once: Harry (Pedro Pascal) – the charismatic and rich brother of the groom, and her not very successful ex-boyfriend (Chris Evans) – struggling for a career as an actor and part-time waiter. And here on the screen is already a classic melodramatic triangle – in fact, the starting point of countless romantic comedies of the 21st century. In this picture attracts not only a nice cast, but also the fact that the tape was released by the studio A24, which has proven the ability to withstand the high quality of any content released under its brand.

A new sports action movie from director Joseph Kosinski – he also gave the audience a great sequel to “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022, and in 2013 – the famous sci-fi movie “Oblivion”. The script for “Formula 1” was written by Ehren Kruger, who worked with Kosinski on “Maverick”. The on-screen cast is spectacular: Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Damson Idris and more. The synopsis is simple, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be disappointed with the movie. A formerly successful retired race car driver (Pitt) is about to regain his former glory by becoming a mentor to a young promising pilot (Idris). The audience will be treated to a lot of auto aesthetics, no-nonsense passions between the characters, as well as a complete immersion in the cruel world of racing sports.
It’s in the UK box office from July 2.
Another high-profile action movie that kicks off at the box office this summer, but only a sci-fi one. “Rebirth” will be the seventh film of the cult franchise “Jurassic Park”. Events will unfold five years after the previous installment “Domination”. The planet’s ecology has proved largely unsuitable for dinosaurs. The remaining ones inhabit isolated equatorial regions. Three of the most enormous prehistoric creatures in this tropical biosphere hold the key to a cure that could change the future of humanity. It is for their DNA that a group of researchers, played by Scarlett Johansson, Rupert Friend, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, are sent to retrieve it. The movie is directed by Gareth Edwards, who directed “Outcast One: Star Wars. Stories” (2016) and “Godzilla” (2014).
It’s in the UK box office from August 8.
Paramount has unveiled a new remake of the popular parody comedy series , The Naked Gun. Starring Liam Neeson , it will play Frank Drebin Jr. who is the son of the bumbling detective (Leslie Nielsen) from the original films. It was directed by American writer, producer and comedian Akiva Schaffer. The official synopsis of the new “Gun” reads, “Only one man has the special skills to lead a police squad and save the world!”. Joining the investigation will be Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, C.C. Hunder, Kevin Durand and more.

The world seems doomed, and everyone says goodbye to Chuck. Wherever Marty (Chiwetel Ejiofor) goes, he can’t get away from Charles Krantz (Tom Hiddleston). His face appears on billboards, store windows, and in television commercials. What’s so special about this seemingly ordinary accountant? Where is he going and why does he deserve such a farewell? And most importantly, what does this have to do with the end of the world?
As the American magazine Vanity Fair accurately noted, Stephen King is a repeat offender when it comes to the end of the world. Over the decades, he has killed off the heroes of his works en masse or individually in various inventive ways – always backed up by the cruelty and despair of the last survivors. But in his unexpectedly luminous novel “The Life of Chuck,” which is the basis for the new movie, King uses the end of the world to highlight the importance of every human life and the ability to appreciate moments of happiness. The film adaptation was directed by Mike Flanagan, the author of the brilliant horror series Midnight Mass and the excellent sequel to The Shining, Dr. Sleep.
It’s in the UK box office from July 11.
A new blockbuster from master superhero director James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) – who, incidentally, is now co-chairman of DC Studios and is trying to breathe new life into the brand. Henry Cavill, who played the role of Clark Kent in the franchise’s previous reboot, “Man of Steel,” has been replaced by a younger actor, 31-year-old David Korensweth. DC has high hopes for him, like Gunn, as well as the new version of Superman – literally all they have left after a string of high-profile failures. A trailer released online not too long ago left some viewers puzzled – mostly because of “not good enough graphics” for such a big project, but some noted that this could be a signature highlight, and it’s not worth drawing premature conclusions just yet. In any case, everyone is waiting for the new “Superman”, if only to give their verdict.
It’s in the UK box office from August 8.
Disney is releasing a sequel to the famous 2000s comedy “Freaky Friday” – starring the two main characters from the first part – Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The movie will take place 20 years after the events of the original version. This time Anna and Tess will swap places with two teenagers. Anna (Lindsay Lohan) will find herself in the body of her daughter Harper, while Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) will take the place of Lily, the daughter of an English restaurateur who is soon to marry Anna. The public is going to the theaters not only to get nostalgic about the noughties, but also to watch the rebirth of Lindsay Lohan on the big screen, who has been working diligently lately to reboot her image and career.

On the harsh island of Burke, where Vikings and dragons have been sworn enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Tams) stands out. The resourceful but not overly powerful son of chieftain Stoick the Great (Gerard Butler). He defies centuries of tradition by befriending Toothless, a fearsome (and as it later turns out, very cute) dragon of the Night Furies. Their friendship questions the foundations of Viking society and makes him question what it really means to be a hero and a leader. This movie is an exact repetition of the plot of the original cartoon, released in 2010, but the story does not become less touching and instructive.
It’s in the UK box office from July 25.
There are several reasons to be interested in “Fantastic Four: First Steps”: first – it’s another movie with Pedro Pascal (though, it should be noted that the actor quite often recently pleases fans with his appearance on the screen), who stretches his body parts to unprecedented distances, second – it’s a new stage of the Marvel movie universe, third – it’s a hope for a new good superhero movie, and this is important, because recently there has been a crisis in this segment. The director of the movie was Matt Sheckman, who participated in a number of successful projects: the series “Guys”, “Billions”, “The Heirs”, “Game of Thrones”, “Fargo” and more.
