Foodies was founded in 2006 in Edinburgh, the hometown of its creator Sue Hitchen – she wanted to organize a fun family event celebrating local food and drink. Foodies now has 14 editions across the country. Each one is a celebration of the cuisine of the region where the festival takes place. Only local vendors, artisans, food and beverage producers are invited to participate. Foodies are divided into so-called “Theaters” where professional chefs can demonstrate their culinary skills to the audience, and those, in turn, take cool new recipes home with them. By the way, among the participants are the best Michelin-starred representatives of the industry. Winners of the popular MasterChef and MasterChef Professionals programs are frequent guests of Chefs Theatre. In the Cake and Bake Theatre local bakers bake and prepare sweets together with Bake Off winners and finalists, and in the Drinks Theatre wine, champagne, beer, cider and other beverage experts conduct tastings every hour.
There is a Kids Cookery Theatre for kids, where young visitors can try new flavors and learn basic cooking skills. On the Musicians Against Homelessness (MAH) stage, artists perform throughout the event and proceeds are donated to Crisis.
