Svetlana Alexievich in Conversation: “Putin and Power”

Explore the human stories behind the defining conflicts of our times with a new Nobel Prize for Literature winner.

Svetlana Alexievich opens Power of Power, a festival of contemporary thought on the role and nature of money, dynasty and desire.

Belarusian journalist, writer and Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich has spent over three decades collecting stories from thousands living on the frontlines of history, from Chernobyl to Kabul.

Her writing offers insights into the ‘little, great people’ who have struggled and survived through the fall of the Soviet Union and the rise of a new ‘era of power’.

Is the world on the brink of a new Cold War between the superpowers? Can the democratic voices of the many overcome the concentrated power of an elite few?

At this special event Alexievich’s vivid ‘novels in voices’ are brought to life by the Belarus Free Theatre, with readings from Artistic Director Natalia Kaliada.

You can then hear the new Nobel laureate in conversation with award-winning author and critic Marina Warner.
