Join us for four evenings of talkswith some of Georgia’s best-known writers (and other writers with links to the country) on 11-14 April at two historic central London locations: Asia House and Europe House. Followed by weekend screenings on 16-17 April of the latest Georgian films and classics at London’s landmark Regent Street Cinema.
- 9 April 1991 Georgia declared independence after 70 years of Soviet rule, reclaim-ing the sovereignty of the short-lived First Republic of 1918-21.
- 9 April 1989 Exactly two years earlier the Red Armycrushed peaceful demonstra-tions in Tbilisi, killing 21.
- 14 April 1978 Georgians observe Deda Ena (mother tongue) Day every year to re-member popular protests that halted Soviet moves to oust Georgian as the official language in Georgia.
