Bolt, the ballet by Dmitri Shostakovich

This colourful exhibition will explore the ballet ‘Bolt’, one of Dmitri Shostakovich’s musical experiments of the early 1930s. An industrial production, featuring real hammers and machine-inspired choreography, ‘Bolt’ was nonetheless banned by the Soviet authorities after its premiere. Curated by Elena Sudakova and Alexandra Chiriac, the exhibition is organised in collaboration with the St Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music.
